Design of Experiments (DOE) – Taguchi & Shainin Methods
Design of Experiments (DOE) is collection of several sophisticated and statistical methods of identifying optimum parameters, factors or conditions for a process. Using DOE methods, the experimenter can obtain information on required levels of process variables to achieve desired outcome in much less number of experiments than required by traditional methods or complete theoretical trials.
Taguchi methods are specially useful in identifying sources of variation in a process, segregating them, selecting tolerances, evaluating variability and setting up specifications for both product and process variables.
Shainin methods provide relatively simple, shop-floor friendly techniques to achieve these objectives. Some of the popular shainin tools are Red X, B v/s C analysis, Lot Plot etc.
