TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)

TPM is a manufacturing led initiative that emphasizes the importance of people, a “can do” and “continuous improvement” philosophy and the importance of production and maintenance staff working together. It is presented as a key part of an overall manufacturing philosophy. In essence, TPM seeks to reshape the organisation to liberate its own potential.

TPM focuses on improving plant productivity and equipment efficiency by attempting to prevent six losses :

• 1. Breakdown losses caused by the equipment
• 2. Set-up and adjustment losses
• 3. Minor stoppage losses
• 4. Speed losses
• 5. Quality defect and rework losses
• 6. Yield losses
