IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard)
IRIS is the quality system standard for Railway industry similar to AS 9100 for Aerospace industry or TS 16949 for automotive industry. Currently IRIS is applicable to Rolling Stock and Signaling companies having manufacturing and/or design and/or maintenance activities.
The standard uses ISO 9001 as base standard with additional railway sector specific requirements.
IRIS certifications unlike ISO series certifications do not work on pass / fail system. They are rated on 5 levels to measure maturity. IRIS also requires at-least 6 months data to be presented during the certification audit. Organizations with multiple sites require separate audits and get separate certificates for each site.
